First Tre Flip and Nose Manual (of mine) on video

Still from a tre flip

Late night or nothing
As mentioned – repeatedly – I’ve been working way too much lately on way too many projects. I love most of what I do (minus the actual drudgery of one of the $ jobs), but when I add it all together it can be overwhelming. Skate time has suffered lately, and really that’s the main thing I crave. So here’s to the 19 hour days, back to back! Hooray!

I’ve found that I won’t get in skate sessions at all unless I resist gravity at the end of the day, keep the shoes on at 11pm, go out, hop a fence into a school yard, and just skate!

Sessions
Since my last post I managed to get in two or three more late night sessions. So my skating has for sure increased since I healed that bone in my foot, and since I started that temp job.

The other night I got in an hour, and busted out a Practice Set 2.2, (plus a few new tricks I’ve added, I will create the link later for it).

Then, more recently, having brought out my camera to another night session, I recorded some things I’d never recorded before. Including my first tre flip on video.
I lost a generation (long story, phone/computer/program issues), but here it is, a little medly of the occasion:

A few more photos
Yeah I’ve been taking a ton of pictures. Here’s one. I was working but wished I was skating.

At least it’s something

My beloved skate

Skate drought update
Last year I skated almost every single day. Went from hardly ollieing to tre flips. Even through all those injuries and domestic calamities
I skated. Of course, while learning a ton, and dominating in the field of fun, I worked very little on my career, couldn’t tolerate the shit jobs, relaxed into minimum wage part time underachieving background “acting”, became homeless and almost lost my marriage.
This last few months of “skate drought” (including healing from another little broken bone) have been ridiculously compensatory: 50+ hour per week temp job; Running my own business; picking up other loose ends and something else huge I’ll blog about later.

There's an old Girl video where they hit these rails. Koreatown.

Skate commuting
At least it’s something. Skating, ollieing, doing manuals, kickflips, heelflips, varial flips, 180s and grinds while commuting or waiting for a bus. Sometimes, sadly, entire days pass while my Element sits in a corner.
There’s been a few times in the last few months when I’ve been home by 9pm, and didn’t have to get to until 7:30am. Feasible skate time. Admittedly though, I’ve been so exhausted from the constant 18 hour work days, I just crashed early.

A sight for sore eyes.

Light amidst the dark ages

Still taking tons of photos of skate terrain, while working an extremely time consuming temp job.

Dark ages
Check out my last post, and you’ll see what I’m talking about. In essence, it is a phase I saw coming months ago. Have been getting up at 4:30 or 5am and getting home around 10pm or 11pm. Haven’t had a day off since Christmas, and before that it was September. Of course look at my blog and you’ll see I worked very little all last year. Digging myself out of a ditch now.

And I miss the regular skating something fierce.

There are hundreds of these spots, everywhere in Los Angeles!

Sessions
Over the last few weeks since my last post I got in only a few skate sessions. Haven’t even had time to blog them. The “light” in these sessions is that I haven’t seem to have lost any of the tricks from the practice sets. Also, I landed some tre flips, and I actually see improvement, in general. Odd.
Sure it isn’t like it was back in December and early January after something clicked for me therein but before I broke a bone in my foot. All the same, I note definite, unmistakable progress. And I love it.

The Chipotle gap. I want to kickflip it.

The near future
This temp job lasts until April 18, and until then I’m cranking it out, plus running the business my wife and I own. I imagine in the the meanwhile my skate sessions will be fewer still. Then I’ll still need another income solution. However I crave getting back to regular skate sessions, and so this I shall do!

Stay posted.
